Vigenère Encryption

The earliest record of the Vigenère Cipher is a description in a 1553 book. Its' named erroneously for Blaise de Vigenère, (pictured) who invented a stronger cipher a few years later. For 300 years the Vigenère Cipher was uncrackable; "le chiffre indéchiffrable" (French for 'the indecipherable cipher')
